Mac had his adenoids removed last Thursday. The surgery went very smooth. He even seemed to come out of the anesthesia pretty well. Up until 3:30 that day, we thought we might get to come home that night. Mac had a different plan.
When the PCA (patient care assistant) came into take his vitals, he threw a temper tantrum before she really even got started. He had almost fallen asleep and he was not too enthused at being bothered. He threw such a fit that he forgot to breath and turned blue. I guess from his NICU days, I was alarmed, but not shocked. The nurses were in shock. He came out of it without the need for oxygen, although if they could have gotten oxygen to him quicker they would have given it to him. He came back around before they could administer it. He slept for an hour or so after this ordeal and then decided everything was okay. The nurses stayed away from him and he started to play and laugh with Chad and I. The PCA did return to replace a probe that had fallen off about four hours later. HE DID IT AGAIN! Now the whole floor of nurses and doctors were alarmed. We were moved to a different floor so that he could be monitored more closely. We also had to stay overnight for observation. He didn't have any more fits the rest of the night. I am guessing it was a combination of the anesthesia, being in a strange place, and strange people messing with him. I think he has had enough of the hospital for this lifetime :). So have I!!!
The pictures I have added to the right are of Carson pretending to be Fireman Sam (a cartoon we watch OFTEN). The picture of Mac is how he looked in the hospital 90% of the stay. He was happy as long as they left him alone.
We are enjoying the summer and looking forward to vacation in July.
Thanks for checking in - -"see" you again soon! -Megan
